Protestors gathered outside the India Today-Aaj Tak office in Bengaluru on Friday, chanting slogans against journalist Rohit Sardana for his remarks about important female figures in Islam, The News Minute reported.
The protestors demanded Sardana’s arrest for his “blasphemous” tweets and called for Aaj Tak’s shutdown. An image posted by The News Minute also showed a door with its glass shattered.
On November 16, Sardana had tweeted on Malayalam movie S Durga, questioning why the title “sexy” could be used only after a Hindu goddess’ name and not for figures associated with other religions.
On Friday, the protestors carried out a silent march from Masjid-e-Askari in Bengaluru’s Richmond Town locality to the India Today office. The Anjuman-e-Imamia group organised the march.
The journalist had tweeted an apology for his remarks, saying he did not wish to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. Sardana also claimed he had received several anonymous threatening calls, after which he asked the Uttar Pradesh Police to take action.
On Thursday, a similar protest against Sardana’s remarks was held in front of the police commissioner’s office in Purani Haveli in Hyderabad.
